2013 Trail Running

Where have I been the past 12 months?  Trail running mainly.  My first interstate trail run was the 2013 Roller Coaster Run in Victoria's Dandenong Ranges.  Little did I know just how good this trail running caper can be.

At the Roller Coaster I met a girl, fell in love... and the rest, as they say, is history.  Many trail runs later we married in a bush ceremony surrounded by Tasmania's gorgeous Wilderness World Heritage Area beside the Upper Mersey River.
As if the excitement of a trans-Bass Strait romance was not enough I was also charged with running the programme for an 11-day national camp for 200 teenage boys in South Australia during January 2014.  I was privileged to have several trips to SA running (literally at times) all over the state sussing out activities.  The camp itself went extremely well despite 50 of my 150 activities needing to be changed or replaced due to bush fires and extreme heat.

Speaking of SA...
In September last year I ran my first marathon.  In fact it was the Yurrebilla Trail Ultra Run - a marathon-and-a-bit through the Adelaide Hills.  Chasing my wife-to-be through 56kms up hill and down dale thoroughly tested my mettle.

Last but not least, 2013 still had plenty of time for my amazing 3 children who excelled at school, music and sport throughout the year.  Ironically, the one major thing almost completely missing from 2013 was bushwalking in Tasmania - something which will be rectified well and trully in 2014!
